Have Mercy!

You would think that you could trust the person you live with and the veterinarian that takes care of you, but I soon found out they were in cahoots and not in a good way.

Doc dropped me off at the veterinarian’s office late on Friday for what I thought was just to be boarded while Doc was on vacation. No big deal, she does that sometimes and I like all the people that take care of me and spoil me while I am there. What I didn’t know was that Doc had made a plan with Dr. R.  to have me neutered while she was in Ireland on vacation. The problem was no one had consulted me. So, I was very surprised when the surgical team came to get me on Wednesday afternoon. They shaved part of my leg, put in an IV and then Dr. R came in dressed in a surgical gown. They put something in my IV that made me very sleepy and when I came to, my man parts had been altered and I had stiches. They put a big plastic cone around my head and sent me to recovery, where they monitored me and made sure I was ok.

When I came to, I heard the techs say that Doc had called to see how I was and that Dr, R was calling her back in Ireland to tell her how things went. That gave me a little comfort to know that at least she was checking on me. I can’t lie at first I felt a bit upset that she would plan such a thing while she was off having fun doing the Irish jig somewhere. Because I had a bit of an attitude when I came to, they explained to me that it was better for me to stay where they could keep an eye on me and keep me from ripping my stiches out.

To be honest, it worked out ok. I got lots of extra attention and one of the vet techs would lay next to me every morning to comfort me while I was healing.

Then on the following Tuesday afternoon they told me Doc was there to pick me up. They went over the post-surgical instructions with Doc before they brought me out to see her. I admit, I was kind of sad to leave everyone as they had all taken such good care of me. They even bragged to Doc about what a good boy I had been.

As dogs are known to be good at manipulating the humans that care about them, you can be sure that I am going to milk this for all the sympathy I can get.
