Trying New Things Can be Scary Sometimes
Walter is expereincing everything in the world for the first time. Even though he turned the ripe old age of five months today, he is still learning about everything the world has to offer. So he was certainly surprised when Doc dropped him off for an entire day at Puppy Preschool.
I was so excited for Walter when I saw that he was going to the same place that I had gone to adult doggy daycare for years. Everyone there is so nice and they make sure all the dogs are safe and well taken care of. I loved it there. Who wouldn’t like a day where you can hang out with your best friends and just have fun. Doc figured Walter needed a day off from his job and to also have a chance to socialize with other puppies. Part of being a good therapy dog is to be well socialized with both man and beast. Like Doc says, we all need to have balance in our lives, even little puppies.
Walter was so excited to see all the puppies, at first, he didn’t realize Doc was gone. When he did finally notice, he got a little nervous as he is use to being with her most all of the time. It’s only normal to have some first day jitters in a new situation. and I could tell he was getting concered. “Time to move forward and try new things little buddie.” I whipered in his ear to calm him down. After that pep talk it didn’t take long for him to meet and start to play with two new friends named Banks and Roony. After a rigorius play time it was time for a nap and that is how Doc found him when she went to pick him up after work, sound asleep with his friends.
By the time Walter and Doc got home, they were both worn out from a long day. Walter cuddled up next to Doc as she told him how proud she was of him because the staff at day care had told her he was the most well behaved puppy there. Walter also realized that trying something new, even when you feel a bit scared is a good way to get past your fear. A new lesson learned.
Since it is the day before turkey day, Walter and Doc want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. However you chose to celebrate, don’t forget to keep in mind the things you are thankful for.
