I Had a Dream
Last night i had dream that was so wonderful, I decided to share it with Doc this morning. After all, Doc was trained in the interpretation of dreams, so why not get free dream analysis. So, as soon as we got to the office, we had some time before our first patient and Doc asked me to tell her the dream in detail while she wrote it down.
After I got comfortable in my dog bed by her desk and she had pad and paper in hand I began. The dream started with me seeing many white clouds with some rays of sun peeking through. Then I noticed a man wearing a long plain cassock. As the man got closer, I recognized that it was Pope Francis that had just passed away. Standing beside him was a black and white dog that I recognized from pictures as a Border Collie that Doc had owned as a young girl. The Pope had his hand on top of the dog’s head and he was gently stroking his fur. In the distance some people started to approach and as they came closer I recognized them as some of our patient’s that had passed away. As they all gathered together I realized that they all knew each other and their was a feeling of love and acceptance and I thought this might be heaven. That is where the dream ended and when I woke up I felt a sense of peace and wondered what the dream had been about. I then looked up at Doc That’s when she started asking me a bunch of questions.
She had me look at any thoughts, feelings or meanings the dream had for me, what the people and dog represents to me and then look at what the dream is trying to tell me about where I am I my life or what message the dream is trying to tell me. Doc then said to me “ People sometimes disregard their dreams, but they really are a way to help people be more aware of how they are working through the issues in their lives,. Dreams tap into the unconscious.” I thought about everything that she had asked me and answered her questions, helping me to explore what this very vivid dream had been about. In the end I was left feeling hopeful and at peace.
When it is time for me to leave this earth, I hope I get to be with the people and animals that have passed before me, that have been important in my life. I also hope there are endless dog treats as well. For me, that would be my definition of heaven.
