The Big Thaw, the Bunnies are Back!

Over the last few days the temps have risen and the snow is melting. That means the bunnies will be back in our yard dining on our goumet grass again. A high of fourty degrees the other day also had the humans outside chopping up the ice and snow dressed just in sweat shirts like it was spring. The snow didn’t bother me, but I could tell that Doc and the other humans were in a much better mood as they dared to venture out of their warm abodes. So it is only natural that nature reappeared as well.

As I said before, I hadn’t seen the bunny that comes in our yard for awhile and I miss chasing her around the yard. When Doc catches me, she scolds me because she said the bunny comes in our fenced yard to eat because she feels safe and doesn’t need a seven month old puppy disturbing her breakfast and dinner. What do I know, this is the first time I have experienced many of these critters and I just want to play, but Doc has some strict rules that I really don’t like about how we treat nature at our house. She must have forgotten I am a hunting dog and this is my instinct kicking in. When I told her that, she told me I don’t need to hunt becase she can just go to the grocery store to buy our food.

Being in my teenage phase I didn’t listen and this morning when it was still dark I went to the back door to be let out. When Doc turned on the flood light so I could see, there were not one but two bunnies eating the newly exposed grass. I sprung off of the back porch and started chasing one of them and what I didn’t expect is that the other one started chasing me to protect it’s partner. Now that was twist in the scenario I didn’t expect. After a couple laps around the yard I got a little concerned and ran to the back door where Doc was laughing at me. I ran into the house and hid behind Doc. Who knew bunnies could be aggressive when protecting each other. Another lesson learned.
