The Big Storm, Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Sometimes a big snow storm gives people the opportunity to show their kindness. I have already realized at the ripe old age of six months that Doc and I are the ones use to caring for others, so it was a nice suprise when the tables were turned and we were the ones being helped.

We were right in the path of the snow storm they forcasted.. When Doc and I went ot bed Satruday night it was still quiet, but by the time we got up the next morning, Snowmageddon was upon us in full force. and our city was already under a Level 3 snow emergency. We had been up for a while, had eaten breakfast and were trying to stay warm when at 8:30 am we heard a knock at the front door. Doc looked at me and said “Walter, who on earth would be out in this weather?” When Doc opened the door she was suprised to see our neighbor Adam that lives behind us. He was dressed like he was going to the north pole. “ Can I clear your driveway and sidewalk with my snow blower? he asked. “ How kind, Doc responded are you sure?” At this point even my puppy brain was worried she would turn him down and try to do it herself. “ I love using my snowblower and I’ll come back later in the afternoon to do it again.” he said as he gave me a pat on the head. I could tell Doc was a little relieved, as we were expecting over a foot and that would be a lot of shoveling, even for Doc. So off he went, and he made a fairly quick job of it.

For the rest of the day and in to the night it snowed and snowed. It didn’t bother me one bit and later in the afternoon I went outside and had fun playing with the neighbor dog Weller as we ran back and forth along the fence until I was worn out.

By Monday the snow had finally stopped and the sun even peeped out, so Doc took me out for a walk. The snow plows had been down our street and now snow was piled up at the end of our driveway. On our walk we saw another neighbor Joe, and when he saw us, once again, he asked Doc if she needed help getting rid of the snow blocking the driveway. This time she declined saying she could do it, but was touched another neighbor asked if they could help. In addition, family and friends checked in on us as we did with them through out the next few days.

This morning on our first day back at work I was thinking about how lucky wwe are to have so many people that care about us. Even my co-workers checked in with me this morning to see how “the new puppy” did in the storm. It’s always nice to feel appreciated.
